New Special Education Website!
We are excited to announce our new Special Education website at http://www.southgateaz.org/SPED. This site will serve as an information portal for parents, providing important information and policies, like our new 2006/2007 Procedures Manual.
SOUTHGATE STUDENTS PERFORM EXCEPTIONALLY!
Outstanding AIMS scores demonstrate school success. Results from the Arizona Department of Education 2006 spring assessments show that our students made substantial progress in each of the three areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. A few highlights of the impressive results include:
6th Grade writing, a 44% increase in the percentage of students "meeting or exceeding" the standards
8th Grade reading, a 32% increase in the percentage of students "meeting or exceeding" the standards
7th grade writing, 97% of the students "met or exceeded" the standards
5th grade math, 12% of the students "exceeded" the standards
We are very pleased with our results and the dedication shown by our students, teachers, parents, and staff insisting that our students reach their highest potential.

SUMMER ASSESSMENT
For all new students, the test will be administered on July 25th between the hours of 9:00am to 2:00pm and July 26th between the hours of 4:00pm and 6:00pm. If anyone should have any question please call Delia at 237-4564 OR 741-7900.
AIMS TESTING
The month of October will have AIMS Testing for 11th and 12th grade students only. These tests are administered to ensure that every senior high school student passes. Previously we posted that there would be field testing for 3,5,8 and 10, but that information was incorrect. We apologize for any inconvenience that may have caused.
PICTURE DAY HAS MOVED
Picture Day has moved to October 10, 2005. See the updated calendar for details.
SUPPLY LIST GRADES K-6
Supply lists are now available to download for parents of kindergarten through 6th graders.

FIRST GRADUATING CLASS
Tomorrow night Southgate will be hosting its very first Commencement Ceremony. Congratulations to the Class of 2005, Southgate Academy's first graduating class!
STUDENTS OF THE MONTH (April/May)
Congratulations to the Students of the Month for April and May 2005. The following students received special recognition for their hard work: Arturo Lagunas, Victor Figueroa, Stephanie Martinez, Anthony Moreno, Janelle Guana, and Karina Navarro.
STUDENTS OF THE MONTH (March)
Congratulations to the Students of the Month for March 2005. Our Elementary recognition goes to fifth grader Mayte Arroyo. For Junior High, we have seventh grader David Ramirez. At the High School level, congratulations to senior Adrian Jaimez.
MATH & READING RESOURCE
Teachers, there is a new Math & Reading Resource you should look over. It has been mirrored from a Florida district site, so many of the links are specific to studying for the Florida FCAT. However, many of the links are invaluable and incredibly useful, so I'm posting it here. You can also find a link to the page in our Internet Resources section.
A NEW LOOK
The new look for the Southgate Academy website is here! A new navigation menu can be found at the right side of every page. Calendar events are above, and news updates will appear in this spot. The new site will display in any browser. The new design has been tested to work in IE 5.5+ and Mozilla Firefox 0.7+, but should also work in Mozilla, Netscape, Safari, and Konqueror.
